As cold temperatures stick around, Father Gene's Help Center is in constant need of gently used coats, scarves, hats and gloves. Executive Director Jason Wilson says donated items fly off the floor as fast as they arrive. The free closet is open to anyone with no questions asked — dignity is central to their mission, right down to the shopping center music played overhead.

A month after flooding, demand still high at Father Gene's Help Center
Milwaukee area nonprofits continue to step up to help those impacted by August's historic flooding. Father Gene's Help Center in West Allis saw client visits double — from roughly 50 to 100+ people per day — following the disaster. The center partnered with the Red Cross to provide clothing at temporary shelters and is calling for volunteers and donations of new underwear and socks to meet ongoing critical needs.
