Thanks for the Memories

Growing up, most of us were familiar with Bob Hope who was a very popular entertainer.

He would finish his show singing “Thanks for the Memories.” He did this as another way of telling his audience how much he enjoyed being with them the past hour. In a musical way I would like to sing to all of you reading this my thanks for the memories and blessings I have had these past 20+ years at Fr. Gene’s HELP Center.

  • I am thankful for the diaconate which provided me the spirituality of serving God by serving the poor and needy in the Greater Milwaukee area.

  • I am thankful for the opportunity to “walk with Fr. Gene Jakubek,” our founder, especially the last 10 years of his life. Fr. Gene and I talked to each other via telephone once a week. I was so privileged to be close to such a saintly man.

  • I am thankful for having my wife Toni at my side at Fr. Gene’s all of these years working harder than me.

  • I am thankful for working with the greatest group of volunteers ever. Many of them are now in heaven with Fr. Gene.

  • I am thankful for the many, many friends who in some instances gave financial resources and other assistance when needed.

  • I am thankful for the many churches who listened and responded in the spirit of Fr. Gene’s vision of love for one another by caring and sharing.

In conclusion, I thank God for the opportunity to serve Him by serving over 1000 needy families and individuals each year with a group of wonderful friends, volunteers and benefactors.

My prayers are with you as you embark on your next 50 years.
